I completely unplugged...took myself "off the grid" (no internet, no tv, no radio, no music at all) a few weeks ago. Here I am a few weeks later...and I can't hear God again. The clutter in our lives is ever present and so LOUD.

Unplug!

Alot of food for thought here.

Makes me think of The Teacher when he says: "VANITY, VANITY, ALL IS VANITY AND A CHASING AFTER WIND" ECC 1.2 and 2.26.

I've sure found that I need to be careful, in my zeal for knowledge and wisdom, that I don't allow the wonderful resources online to interfere and/or take the place of actual time with God in prayer and in His word.

I recently purchased a book by Dan B. Allender & Tremper Longman III called "Breaking the Idols of Your Heart"
http://www.ivpress.com/cgi-ivpress/book.pl/code=3441
which is based on Ecclesiastes. The authors expand on The Preachers words concerning how we exchange many 'cheap pursuits' for the only ONE worth pursuing. These cheap pursuits often creep in so slowly that we don't even realized that they have usurped the REAL thing in our lives...

So an occasional fast is a great way to seek Gods face...to hear that still small voice in drawing us back to THE only worthy pursuit.

Thanks for this...

I love the idea of an Internet-fast. Very good thought for the avid Internet-users of the world.

I also like your online reading list. My favorites too.

How do you do… escaping

“Heeeeeeeeeeelp!”

To escape is what we humans do throughout our lives. In countries, relationships, friends, jobs, lifestyles and dear old braino with all its pseudo logic, afflictive desires and tempting idiosyncrasies. But will we, could we, do we, want to escape?

YES
