Pruning

John 15:1 Jesus says:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”

Wikipedia says:

“Pruning in landscaping and gardening is the practice of removing diseased, non-productive, or otherwise unwanted portions from a plant. The purpose of pruning is to shape the plant by controlling or directing plant growth, to maintain the health of the plant, or to increase the yield or quality of flowers and fruits….

Proponents of pruning often argue that it improves the health of the plant and makes sturdier structure…”

Some form of this is happening to me right now.

Pruning can be a painful bittersweet process! The rewards, both personally and for the Kingdom, are awesome!

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
    — Galatians 5:22-23

My beloved nephew, I’ve been praying for God’s pruning in your life…that quality fruit be borne in and through you by His Spirit!
I continue to pray for you as you learn more and more what it is to abide in Him in the midst of it all.

I’m not sure what this all involves yet… but I know its happening. I came across that passage in my daily reading and it just struck me as a comfort… that I am bearing fruit but also as a warning that right now I’m so overbooked that I’m not as productive as I could be.

Like a tree or vine I go in so many different directions… some of those limbs need to be cut off so that others can grow stronger…

not to belabor the metaphor anything… ;-)
