Everyone Must Wrestle With Doubt

Because if you’re not wrestling with doubt you’re either in denial (by saying you have no doubts) or you’ve already chosen to disbelieve that which you are doubting.

Doubts about faith have been something I’ve dealt with ever since heading off to college. Actually, you might point to the time in high school when I was an exchange student in Holland after having had a year of strong Christian fellowship and faith building in my life. Holland was a smack in the face because of the culture and society and because I was there by myself. I learned that even in the midst of doubts, and putting God on a shelf, so to speak, God was still with me regardless of what happened (I like to joke that I learned two things in Holland: how to drink beer and coffee, both of which have been much more valuable than my ability to speak Dutch.). Anyway, it seems that when I am in the throes of doubt that God steps in and reminds me that he’s here, whether it’s something my wife or kids say to me, or a spiritual experience in worship.
