Advent Conspiracy

I’m thinking about using Advent Conspiracy as our Advent/Christmas programming this year. It looks like a pretty cool idea.
If you’ve never heard of Advent Conspiracy, have a look here:

The Advent Conspiracy Promo Video from theadvance on Vimeo.

If you have used it before:

What did you use for sermons?

Did you use the Sunday School curriculum?

What was the effect on the congregation?

Which of these resources did you use and find effective?

Are you doing it again?

What else can you tell me?

I used a session of the Advent Conspiracy with my youth group – it was well received. It was a bit heavy given their default consumer setting, but that is what made using it all the more necessary.

I would like to do this with my congregation too, but I doubt that will happen…

We talked about this last year but in the race and pace of an inner city church it never happened. But good stuff here. Coincidentally, a friend convinced me to attend a Christmas program at a large MB church here – I was really disappointed. It was a sanitized play that mentioned all the nice things around Jesus birth, but none of the hairy background – Herod, soldiers killing young children. We don’t do the gospel any favors when we decontextualize it.

I used AC with my congregation in 2009 and invited other congregations in the community to join us. I started ramping up for AC in mid-October so I was late on the preparations. Still one other much larger congregation joined us and the culmination was a combined Christmas eve offering of >$20,000! 75% of the offering was given to local missions within our community and 25% went to MAP International not to drill wells in Africa but to train Africans to fix the wells that have already been drilled. The impact on the congregations was tremendous and we are looking forward to AC 2010. I wrote my own messages around the four themes: Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More, Love All. I will share my messages (and research). Contact me through the info option on the church website.
